REVIEW ROUND 9

Thank God it’s Xmas – picked just one winner this week and had to tip against my own club to get that one right.

First round ended with Andy getting 19 from 45 – to say he is a poor judge is verging on being the understatement of the century.

Leeming may well be the real deal as they role the Dream Team – The Bay bounce back and give it to The Ravens – The Kookaburras found no Magic at Melville – Rockingham make the trip to The Wizards very profitable and The Reds turn it around BIG TIME to upset The Millers.

There just has to be a better way to spend Sunday morning than writing this column.

WARNBRO 79 (3) lost to ROCKINGHAM 82 (5)

Norm Pascoe’s rink wins and carries the day – Strange things happen in bowls!!!

White chalked up another win over Park by 3 – Baker must be getting used to winning as he did it again by 1 over Lethlean and finally Willie T got the better of Bob Costello by 2.

Ken Park from Rockingham BC being watched by Larry Bandy is sitting in a wheelchair with all his shopping being wheeled along by a crew member when the facility was for the aged and infirmed on a recent cruise.
After 3 consecutive losses Ken might have to think about getting out of the wheelchair

Despite the three rink wins to The Wizards, they could not make up the 9 shot margin created by Norm and his rink and the aggregate went back with the visitors. Well done Rockingham – boy is it getting crowded in the bottom four.

MELVILLE 82 (8) def GOSNELLS 65 (0)

Three of the home rinks jumped out to handy leads early and the BIG Fella was well up on Small and Smaller (Beard and Mitchell for the uneducated).

As the day wore on things improved slightly for the visitors however they never really threatened at any stage and Melville went on to record a very workmanlike win – well done boys and top spot on the ladder for your troubles.

It’s good to see Melville in the winners circle as they have been one of the icon clubs over the past two or three decades and the bowling fraternity cannot afford to lose anymore of our good clubs – keep up the good work boys – success and promotion may be closer than you think.

VIC PARK 81 (6) def SOUTH PERTH 69 (2)

Reid and Davidson both won well creating a 21 shot margin for their efforts. Petrich and Rees winning by 5 and 6 shots respectively could not bridge the gap and the result went the way of the home club.

What a turnaround from last week when The Reds were soundly beaten by Gossies. Still that’s bowls for you – ya gotta wonder why tipping is so hard.

Well done Vic Park at least you have finished the year on a very positive note.

THORNLIE 73 (2) lost to SAFETY BAY 83 (6)

Picked the home team and got it wrong again – the destroyer was Ray Beard 31/12 winners over the well performed rink of Greg Deters. Despite Bruce Deters and his boys winning 24/12 over Crocker the damage had been done. Ivers won 21/20 against Massari and Alan Holmes was 20/16 the better over Ric Gilbert.

This was a solid win on the road by The Bay and it keeps them in the four a good outcome in any mans language.

Ray Beard has been a top class skipper for the Safety Bay Club. He played a big part in the good win on Saturday

HILTON PARK 71 (1) def by LEEMING 78 (7)

Leeming appear to be the “Real Deal” and for their troubles jumped from fifth to third spot on the ladder – a great place to be when some of the punters had you fixed firmly in the bottom four.

The Dream Team awoke to a nightmare apparently – Ashworth 26/17 over the reliable Wood – Anderson up 23/19 over Slade and Morris 18/14 over Strahan.

That left just one highlight for the Hilton reel, with Piggott 21/11 winners over Hart.

Well what can you say other than well done Leeming – another win on the road and a spot in the top four – not a bad place to spend the Xmas break.

SUMMARY

I’ve ordered extra beer for next week – sent the crystal ball out for a re-fit – parked my bowls up for a few days – and finally found the perfect gift for my lovely bride.

The season has arrived at the halfway mark and a small rest for those who need it. You look at the ladder with top and last spots separated by just 23 points – I guess that shows how close the competition really is and perhaps it is little wonder that tipping is so difficult.

The run home will be packed with interest and you would be a brave man to write anyone off just yet

So it is on with Xmas and some State events and we will all gather around the 9th of January next year to resume the fight for glory or despair.

Hava good one to you all and may 2010 bring you a winning lotto ticket or something equally nice.

Tarah and good bowling to you all

Andy
