L/R: Karl Vandersluys and Colin Fleay Club Pairs Champions for 2012

The Osborne Park Men's Club Championship pairs was won by Colin Fleay and Karl Vandersluys when they defeated John Irvine and Marcus Sear 20 - 18 in an engrossing top class contest that had many twists and turns throughout the evening.
The game started at 5 PM which is a good time to start a night game. The game started out with nothing between either side after the 3rd end 3-1 in favour of Colin and Karl. That is when things took a turn for the better for them, Karl played a bomb of a bowl to help make 5 big shots and race them away to lead 8-1. Things got better and better when after the completion of the 8th end the score had blown out to a commanding 13-4, both Karl and Colin were playing superbly.

Well it probably seemed like it was the Colin and Karl show which it was. That was about to change when John Irvine and Marcus Sear suddenly found their range and started to bowl with precision to fight their way back into the contest and before you could say "Guts Goddard" they had got themselves within 1 shot to be 14 - 13 down. A truly good recovery and from here on was game on. Not that Colin and Karl had taken their foot of the accelerator, just that John and Marcus had really lifted their game,

Suddenly Karl and Colin picked up a huge 4 shots followed by a 2 to scoot away once again to lead 20 -13 and the game looking safe for them.

Not so as once again Marcus and John never giving up, picked up a much needed four to keep the game alive and now 3 behind with an end to play.
It was a tense and a crackerjack last end with the shot changing 4 time as both sides fought disperately. The second last bowl of the game saw John Irvine down and game over if he couldn't trail to a group of back bowls. John produced some magic to pick the Jack up but unfortunately trailed it a tad too far leaving them with only one shot. Colin Fleay didn't have to play his last bowl and game over and a new Championship pair taking the title.
Must say the standard of bowls from the four players made for an exciting game that was always in doubt till the very last bowl. Well done.

A great win here by Don Wright and John Hogan in a tight game against the up and coming young pair, Chris Bowler and Lewis Grigg, all square coming into the last end.
