Caffell Medal award for best performed player season 2011

April 18, 2011.

After a magnificent Premiership winning season, The Saints 3rd in five seasons the boys held their award night to count the votes for the Caffell Medal to find the best performed player........

It was a fun filled evening with plenty of merriment and laughter and yes even with all the frivolity there was some drama also when a recount was called for, adding even more atmosphere to a wonderful evening.

Garth Brook the vote registrar and Ian Payne did a terrific job not only counting the votes but also entertaining everyone with their quick wit and humour, many a laugh created from them both. Well done to both of you for making the evening such a pleasant one and one to remember

WINNER 411 votes
Congratulations to the winner Gary Caffell, a very deserving winner and so humble in his acceptance of the award. He was sensational in the finals series and what a time to play at the optimum level.
At the end of the home and away games he led by 4 points from Wings Evans, a big finals round from Caff netted him 26, 22, 26 in those three games which was more than enough to win him the medal. Gary also won the award last year.

Winner of the Caffell Medal Gary Caffell, enjoying the moment with runner up Wings Evans, both were extremely happy for all the Saints players on their marvelous premiership winning year.

Top stuff from an inspirational Wings Evans finishing in second place. Wings was in second pozzie just 4 points behind Caff at the conclusion of the home and away games, he also had a brilliant final round series which saw he and is side go thru undefeated, those three final round games netted him 22, 23.5, 22 , he just failed to catch Caff.
No doubt Wings a very skilful player adds plenty of excitement to the game with those terrific conversion shots and the many hi fives after a top class bowl. As always, he is a team man thru and thru and a great asset to the side.

G.T. King finished 3rd after his magnificent season playing lead for John Goddard, the old days of one on and one back changed to two on and none back. A huge performance in the Grand Final and that is when you want to be at your best, capped of an excellent year for Kingy, just one bad performance for the season overall. Well done Kingy

The old days of one on and one back were over, Here is Kingy after finishing 3rd in the voting telling anyone who would listen, that after his first bowl which was on most occasions always on the jack, how far behind the jack he would put his second bowl

L/R: Wayne Coffey, Gordon King, Ian Payne and Wings Evans were all ears here
Wayne Coffey, Kiingy, Ian Payne, Wings Evans
At last years count G. K was showing those around him his average distance away from the jack with his two bowls, we can see in the above pic the improvement that propelled him into 3rd place this year.

Grand Final hero's Wings Evans's awesome foursome defeated Rooster's best performed PL rink 27-5 to swing the game for the Saints.

L/R: Standing: Wings Evans, The General Grant Nicol, Paul Pendergast. Sitting: Paul Butler
Wings Butts, General, Vulchar

The General Grant Nicol, he was joint winner last year after an brilliant season as leader, this year he was a little slow out of the blocks but regained the form that made him the best leader in the Premier League in 2010.

FIFTH 374½ votes
Kevin Pickering played some magic games for the Saints during the early part of the season and was the clear leader after the first 6 games. Finished the season as a 3rd and showed once again he is a quality player.

SIXTH 372 votes
Paul Pendergast had a very steady season and a very reliable 2nd, can also play 3rd with precision. the "Vulchar" played a telling role in the finals
