ONE WHITE FINALS REVIEW WITH ANDY
GRAND FINAL DAY
First the history – Carlisle BC presented brilliant couch greens for all first division finals FOR THE LAST TIME.
Thanks must go to the Carlisle club and in particular their green keeping staff who for years now have turned out very high standard greens on which some of the states greatest exponents of our sport have turned it on for the many who are interested enough to turn up and watch.
I left Carlisle a little saddened yesterday – to think that this proud club is about to disappear. It was the first club I joined back in 1967 – and to think that it is now destined for the history book – is a hard pill to swallow.
Well done to the Carlisle-Lathlain BC – all of its members – both present and past – and on behalf of all bowlers I wish you all, the very best, when you move to your new found club. THE CARLISLE BC WILL BE REMEMBERED for a long time to come.

Two great sides stepped out onto B green today and battled it out for the pennant.
Following 84 completed ends of bowls – Morley had won by just two shots.
Perhaps a draw would have been a fitting outcome but that was not to be – a winner we had to have. CONGRATULATIONS MORLEY.
Played on a 16/17 second green in the presence of a blustery easterly wind – conditions were far from easy. Both clubs on all rinks at various stages of the match produced bowls that could only be described as brilliant.
Less than brilliant bowls were also very easy to produce as the speed of the green and wind made for a difficult day at the office.
The final score line stands testimony to a very high standard game between two very even contestants and to single out individuals for great performances on the day would be doing the others an injustice – so I would like to highlight a rink of the finals.
The outstanding rink of the finals (in my view) goes to Morley
Armstrong – Grieve – Barker and Urquhart
Wayne Barker has been a valuable player for the Mavericks this season
.
– these boys carried all before them all weekend and in doing so played a huge roll in Morley winning the White Pennant.
There were many outstanding individual performances and congratulations go to the whole 32 who provided nearly four hours of drama for spectators to ponder upon.
On your behalf we wish both Mosman Park and Morley success in their endevours in Red next year. We all know only too well the gap that exists between white and red – still the challenge is there to do your best. We will all follow your progress with interest.
IN CLOSING
Another great year of pennant bowls has finished. Despite talk of how pennants could be better organized – it still holds the interest of all bowlers regardless of the division they play in.
Western Australia has a pennant competition that remains the envy of most states – so what ever we do – let us preserve what we have as it is among the best in Australia.
It has been a lot of fun putting these regular articles together and thanks must go to Terry Sheridan and his “OSSIE PARK WEB SITE” as they do a great job in the promotion of our sport.
It has been a pleasure being associated with this web site and its many visitors. I hope the articles written have not offended any one as the good health of bowls has always been foremost in my mind.
There are heaps of characters in our sport – some with talent – some that bring great humour to our sport – others who are simply great club members and make things happen closer to home (where would we all be without them).
This sport is in good hands and will only ever get better if YOU do something positive to make it better – think about that and do what you can.
Keep promoting – keep bowling and above all enjoy this great sport and the fellowship it offers to all and sundry.
See you on a green soon – best wishes to all
Jim McKenzie (alias Andy)
JOHN RAINOLDI

MOSMAN PARK BC
John Rainoldi has had an oustanding career in Lawn Bowls over 30 years
John represented Australia in a test series against New Zealand here in Perth
He has won the Alan Eddy medal as the best player for W.A on four occasions that we are aware of while playing more than 200 games for W.A
John won the State Pairs with his great friend Dennis Katunarich on three occasions and the State Fours two times
A true legend of the game, the name of John Rainoldi will live on long after he finishes his playing days.
