Mosman Park
The Club Million Dollar View.
Mossies finished fifth last season and really did not live up to the promise they showed on paper. Just two and a half points clear of Bassendean (who were relegated) Mosman Park found the year tough going despite having a star studded back end.
When you consider that Bassendean beat Mossies twice during the pennant season, you have to wonder how they finished on top of them. Mossies seemed to have a problem getting players to the park every week. When they fronted with their top playing crew, they were more than competitive. Work commitments and other reasons saw Mossies step out below their top strength too often.
With the likes of Rags Rainoldi, Steve Withers and young Lester “the Jester” Mortimer, not to mention Mark Simpson, Win Ferris, Rad Anderson, Glen Ellis and Rags junior, their back end just bristles with talent.
Mosmans would be unhappy with last year’s result, as their playing list demanded a better outcome.
Will 2008/09 be any better for Mossies?
It has been difficult to obtain any reports from the club. Rumours have been circulating suggesting they are out on the recruiting trail. Maybe so – but have they been successful? And if so who have they recruited?
Worst case scenario for Mossies in my opinion is the status quo from last year remains. This would have Mossies on the park each week with one of the best back ends in White. That should be enough to see this club be part of the top four every day of the week. This assumes that work and other problems don’t interfere with pennant day.
Rinks being lead by Rainoldi snr. Withers, Mortimer and Anderson makes for a strong lineup. Given the thirds who stepped up last year and their already reasonable front end Mosmans certainly have the ammunition to threaten top spot in White.
Punters had Mossies doing this last season and the threat passed gently by. Will they be any better this year is a question that will only be answered by time.
It is my opinion that Mossies will be a top four contender. This assumes no losses from last season and a good attendance record on Saturdays.
Good luck Mossies the start date is only 14 weeks away and approaching quickly.
