The final of the Doubleview Master Pairs was won by the Kalamunda pair Neil Payne and Farley Anderson who defeated Kardinya's Darryl Radford and Tony Cocodis 17-12, Mike Yates was injured after playing the section play of 3 games, Tony Cocodis replaced Mike and played the four follow on games.

L/R: Farley Anderson and Neil Payne after their magnificent win in the Doubleview Masters
......FarleyAnderson and Neil Payne
Both teams had won their way into the final against some really good opposition to set up what turned out to be a wonderful final.

The first end was a cow of an end with bowls scattered all over the place but very understandable. That was the only bad end for the entire game. From here on it was quality quality quality.
The early part of the game saw Neil Payne in tip top touch, it was always his bowl that had the shot. The score went along 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 5-1, 6-1, 6-2, 7-2, 8-2, 9-2 at the end of the 9th end.

Neil Payne drew shot on when down on 6 of the first nine ends while Darryl Radford won two of the ends with his last bowl.

The contest between Farley Anderson and Tony Cocodis was a high class affair, but it was Farley who was so pinpoint with several of his bowls being touchers or very close to being a toucher. Tony Cocodis was playing a top game with many of his bowls so close to the jack but not shot. Brilliant leading by both players....

While Neil Payne had established he was the best player of the four, Darryl Radford was terrific and made Neil earn every shot he got. Darryl drove quite often with a lot of success up till the middle stages but it was Neil who spoiled the party with that persistent draw shot when down or up.

Something had to change for Darryl and Tony, but what could they do ? they were very very close to the jack often enough but could never get the shot, if they did get the shot or shots Neil or Farley would get it back.
Sweet mercy, a change come over the game when Tony and Darryl picked up a 4 to be 6-10 down on the 12th end and plenty of ends left for a real chance to win the game if only Neil Payne would stop playing the standard he was playing and Farley went walkabout. It was around this time of the game that Darryl Radford started to miss his drives which has been so successful earlier in the game

The Kalamunda duo continued on with their high standard, as we have said this was a high end game with both leaders having a battle royal creating such tight heads, which continued on till the last bowl of the match.

Neil Payne was the man in this game, he drew the shot with his last bowl on at least 9 or 10 occasions Darryl Radford played a wonderful game throughout
Farley Anderson was sooooooo goooood in this game and did his part to help win the Doubleview Masters Pairs. Tony Cocodis was terrific, what a great game he played to help give the side every chance possible to win the title..

At the start of the game I noticed that Neil Payne was pumped up and his manner and body language was such that I felt he was going to play a goodun, He was switched on and focussed and played like there was no way this game would be lost..............

This is the 3rd time Neil had won the Doubleview Masters which is quite an achievement. Farley Anderson as been threatening to win a major event for sometime now and to play the way he did in such difficult conditions tells me we will hear more from Farley in the near future......

...........L/R: Tony Cocodis, Mike Yates Darryl Radford a great performance to be r/u

SEMI-FINAL ONE
Daniel Patterson-Colin Hotcker lost to Darryl Radford and Tony Cocodis but did did well to reach the semi-final stage after defeating a good pair, that of Dave Rankin and Simon Alden then rolling the top class pair of Scott Edmonds who has been in tip top form lately and Shane Knott.

I can't remembed ever seeing Colin Hotcker involved at the business end of a prestigeous event such as this but have noted that he is a very good pennant player for Bassendean. Well done to Patto who has a very good record in major events to be up there at the business end of the Master Pairs

SEMI-FINAL
Phil Simonetti-Billy Brandsma did the hard yards to make it to the semi-final after putting out former State Singles Champ Brian Axford and Aaron Delaporte in a tremendous game of bowls that could have gone either way and followed that up by rolling Barry Parmenter and Ted Alden who were in sensational form.

They fell to the eventual winners in another nail biting hard fought contest that produced several outstanding bowls under pressure.

It has been a while since we have seen the name of Phil Simonetti feature in major events, He is a former State Singles champ and a runner up in the 2005 State Triples.
Billy Brandsma who is enjoying a very good season with his pennant side has done well in the Bedford Bowl in the past, I think Billy could be just around the corner from something big in major events.
