W.A suffered a huge setback in their endeavour to win the Interstate Seniors Over 60's carnival when they were beaten by the A.C.T side. On paper W.A looked to be the stronger side but were outgunned by a resolute team who packed to much punch for the W.A side. W.A were down on form and it is clear that some of the players will have to lift and play to their capabilities, too many passengers in this game and doesn't auger well if there is a continuation of the form displayed today.
Players who did stand out were Prickles Thorn, Henry Slawinski, Wings Evans, Bill Galloway in the early part, Cliff Graybrook, and Geoff White. Just didn't catch enough of the Krajancic rink

W.A led 33-21 on the major scoreboard on the 31st end with the Prickles Thorn led rink leading the way 16-10, Wings Evans holding a narrow lead 10-7 and Tony Krajancic 7-6 in front.
Most players were going ok at this stage
but the wind was picking up and fishtailing to some degree.
A big change came over the game from here on with the A.C.T coming back hard and fast to quickly reel in the deficit with the major scoreboard showing them leading 39-35
on the 40th end and from there were never headed and went on to a well earned win.
Wings Evans rink got out of the blocks and led Peter McGuiness 10-5 after the 9th end and were travelling well. All were doing their bit with Bill Galloway and Wings Evans playing the biggest role to keep the A.C.T on their toes. From here on it became a grinding game where it was hard to score, the 14th end saw the score 11-10 Evans's way, the 18th end saw Evans lead 14-12 and finally settle for a draw 16-16.
Prickles Thorn also got away to a great start to lead A Taylor 16-8 on the 11th end then saw that lead evaporate to 16-16 on the 14th end, dropping a 2, 5, 1. From here on it was game on for both sides, Prickles led 21-16 on end 17 and then had to once again withstand a comeback to go into the last end 21-20, they got 2 shots to be the only winner for W.A

7-6 after end 9 then it became 8-8 on the 10th end that was the last time the rink was to be that close again for the rest of the game, the score went 8-15, 10-15, 12-18, 12- 23. About halfway thru this game I asked an A.C.T player who was the best W.A player, the skipper was his reply. It was most noticeable that the Kracker was on the drive quite often even on the last end where the opposition had ultra close bowls that he was forced into driving yet again.
Well it was the 1st game and a good way to get the cobwebs sorted out. Tomorrow W.A play the NT which has several W.A players representing them, Rance Dewson, Geoff Gunning, Glyn Vaughan, Colin Fleay, Brian Jepperson and John McElroy are in this team.
