September 1, 2011.
The side to represent W.A in State Senior sides series which will be held at Warilla Bowling Club in N.S.W has changed quite considerably from last season, three players we are aware of were not available for selection, Geoff Ellis, Jim McKenzie and Mike Zusman, this year there were no trials to help determine selection as they have had in the past, players were required to lodge an expression of interest to the selectors to be considered for selection..,,,.....
W.A have performed admirably in all series since its inception, however playing at Manning last year was a tad disappointing in comparison to previous series when W.A starting as hometown favourites didn't play to their potential, finished in 4th place with possibly the best side to have represented W.A since 2007.
The selectors have named the side which contains six current Premier League player but not the positions the players will play in. There have been five new inclusions to the team, Pat Caffell, Glyn Vaughan, David Armstrong, Gordon King and Geoff Wyatt.
The five players not included in this years team that played at Manning last year are Cliff Graybrook, Bill Galloway, Geoff Ellis, Jim McKenzie and Mike Zusman....
Looking at the side it contains three strong skips, Prickles Thorn is the best performed skip over the years and has been in the side since its inception, Wings Evans has been outstanding since he made the side two years ago and Tony Krajancic made a very successful debut last year.
It is timely to say a huge thank you to the "Diamond" Jim McKenzie who retired from the side, for being the man who played such a huge part and being responsible for the whole Senior setup. It is sad to see Jim bowing out after having been a member of the Senior State side side since it's inception way back in 2007. ...
......................................................................................Perhaps it is time to have a beer on us Jim

There is a lot more to Jim than just his playing ability, his organizational ability and determination to get the job done attitude is second to none, along with his happy friendly approach to all who come across him, he is a person it seems who just can't do enough to help people and the game.
Men like Jim McKenzie don't come along very often, without his contribution it is doubtful there would be the Senior's setup that we have today.
I would hope the powers that be take Tim Murray's suggestion that they name the medal for best performed player of the series the Jim McKenzie Medal
Another two foundation members of the 2007 team, Geoff Ellis and Bill Galloway are not in the side and what a great pair of players they have been playing for W.A.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------Glyn Vaughan

New players in the team
Pat Caffell, making his debut in the State Senior side and a ready made 3rd with a most impressive record over the years. Pat is still playing Premier League and collected another Premiership medal this year, Pat is always the team man.......
Gordon King, a very competitive player also making his debut had perhaps one of his best seasons in Premier League playing lead, the older he gets the better he gets, he also collected yet another Premiership medal last season and will be an asset to the side
Geoff Wyatt, making his debut is a former State player and very highly thought of in bowling circles
Glyn Vaughan one of the unluckiest players to never have made the main State side, Glyn can still play a pretty mean game and will fit in in perfectly with his temperament and ability.
How ironic that Glyn comes into the side as Jim McKenzie departs, Glyn and Jim won the inaugeral State Senior pairs back in 2007
David Armstrong represented the State team many years ago and has a swag of titles and trophies to show for his efforts over the years.
