PART THREE

THE MAD DOG
The Mad Dog went to the Gold Coast with Steve “the Slammer” Srhoy to play in the winter carnival. On the way over on the plane the Slammer was fascinated with some of the stories the Dog had to tell and it made for a really interesting flight for the Slammer.

---------------------The Slammer engrossed in another Dog anecdote

It was a great experience for the Dog who now knows how to iron creams, carry bags, buy drinks, wash cloths, cook, make beds and generally perform all the duties of a bowl’s bitch. The Slammer would only accept the ironed cream City Club trousers when he could shave with the crease in the leg.

On the first day of competition the Slammer took one look at the Dogs outfit, which included the draw string white tracky bottoms and the wank shoes before declaring “You know what that is, that’s shit that is”.

That evening, as soon as they got back to the motel, the Slammer burnt the Dogs white tracky bottoms. The fact that the Dog was still wearing them was of little concern to the Slammer.

The next day the Slammer dragged him yelping by the ear over the road to the Tweed Head bowling shop and made him buy a brand new pair of City Club bowling pants complete with pleats and a belt, new all white shoes, a new shirt and a hat.

“If ya gunna play with me at least look as if you can play because yesterday that was shit that was”, castigated the Slammer.

That afternoon the Dog, looking absolutely magnificent in the new whites, was smashed to pieces by a tart from New Zealand at the Prestige singles. The Slammer watched the game.
As the beaten Dog came off the green, tail between his legs, the Slammer came up to console him, “You know what that was” he said, “that was shit that was”.

The Bird who smashed the Dog

The Slammer showed the Dog how it should be done and turned the clock back twenty years. He was outstanding, particularly when the greens were at there best in the first week.
He went within an ace of getting to the last 16 of the Tweeds Head Prestige Singles, was simply outstanding in lugging Robbie Parella to third place in the Coolangatta Bonanza Triples and in the last week got through to the second day of the pairs even when the greens had slowed down considerably as a result of the Queensland weather.

And a Duke came to watch the Slammer, no not the Duke Peter Bacich, but Clare Duke and showed that not only is she a pretty face, a great bowler, but has also got a fantastic set of bowls.

POPE JOHN McCORMACK
----
Pope John McCormack has done nothing but paint all winter. Whenever the sun is out the Pope heads down to the Club to do anything to help and improve the place, which basically means painting anything he can get to.

The Pope is regarded as the one of the greatest county cricketer this State has ever produced and gets a guernsey in Legends of the Bush. He may never be quite the bowler he was as a batter but he has clearly been doing some sly practice, along with painting, because he is playing better than ever and looks like having one of his best summers.

The Mad Dog had mentioned to some of the guys that he too played cricket in the country, was a pretty good batsman and had actually played against the Pope.
The Beekeeper approached the Pope and asked him how good the Mad Dog actually was. The Pope, always with a good word for everyone “simply said “I’ve seen better batters in a fish and chip shop.
