Review One Blue South Round NINE
In the clash of the titans, it is appropriate that Kardinya and Rockingham kick of the 2009 fixtures, Kardinya demonstrate again, why they will not hang around in this division next season they travelled to Rockingham and came away with six points to maintain their lead at the top of the table.
Safety Bay proved they can play away from home beating Cockburn to pick up six and a half points, Vic Park enjoyed their visit at East Fremantle taking six points, Manning show that life with out Milan Jokic for the remainder of the season will not affect their results, won convincingly against Mt Pleasant and finally Spearwood take the points against Gosnells in a much improved fashion.
Kardinya 82 (6) d Rockingham 73 (2)
This clash brought together the two teams that have demonstrated they have the capabilities to play in One White, Kardinya travelled to Rockingham it was top spot versus fourth, at the end of the day their positions on the table didn’t change however Kardinya gave clear evidence that they will be back in One White next season.
The game was close right up to the 70th end when the class of Kardinya shone.
Top performance for the Kardies was Danny Comrie, he took on the Rockingham juggernaut of Bob Costello to win by eight shots.
Next best performer for the visitors was Wayne Heldt he won by seven shots against Keith Gould.
Wayne Heldt led rinks have lifted their game since a switch of thirds and are playing their part in keeping Kardinya at the top of the ladder
Wayne is nicely balanced as he gets this bowl away in the State Fours held recently
---------------------
For the home side Tony Tuckerman with Steve Wales, John Sullivan and Bill Phillip won a close game against Terry Ball, there was only one in the score on the last end, the home side picked up three shots to win by four.
The other point for the Rocky boys came from Norm Pascoe with John Lethlean, Dave Phillips and last minute substitute lead Ron Park winning by two shots over Mike Yates.
Where to from here? Rockingham has hit the wall; from their last three games they have accumulated only six points they are clear fourth on the table but must start to win games, Kardinya on the other hand are doing it easily.
Next week will be a top clash with Safety Bay, both these sides were relegated last season this match will show which has the desire to return to One White.
In the first round Safety Bay rocked the Kardies to the tune of 27 shots and the Kardies could only manage half a point, this time around the result will be a lot different.
Next Game:
Kardinya to host Safety Bay Rockingham at home to Gosnells
Safety Bay 90 (6½) d Cockburn 79 (1½)
This was the game Cockburn needed to win, they were languishing at the bottom of the table in second last spot and all to play for, they took on Safety Bay sitting third on the table, the tricky Sou Wester was in early and Cockburn would have been thankful for that, it didn’t phase the visitors though, the Bay adapted well to the conditions early and came away with the points.
For the Bay best performance came from the rink of Graham Scott with Norm Read, Noel Cunningham and Lance Gandy as lead they set up the visitors with an impressive nine shot win over Jerry Carpenter,
The other stand out performance for the Bay Ron Hall continues his winning streak with a nine shot win over Steve Venables.
In the closest contest on the day nothing separated Allan Holmes and Joe Marevic, Joe staged a marvellous comeback down 10-19 with six ends to play held the Safety Bay boys to one shot and with his last bowl of the day took out shot bowl to pick up three and draw the game.
In the other game Peter Sardelic and Matt Massari squared off, Peter’s rink led all day with Matt staging a comeback to get within five shots but the master showed his class to run out winner by seven shots.
Next Game:
Safety Bay travel to Kardinya and Cockburn travel to Manning
Vic Park 92 (6) d East Fremantle 84 (2)
East Fremantle hosted second place Vic Park in an important game for the cellar dwellers, Vic Park have strung together three wins and a draw in the wash out. Their last loss was against Kardinya in the third round, they have had great service from in form Brian Barnfield and Erron Martin.
In this game the top performance for the Park was again Brian Barnfield, ‘Barney’ again set up the visitors with a 34 shot win over Bruno Zarins (the Sunday paper got it wrong), Barney’s side of Fred Holt, Henry Lim and Brenton Scott are the best performed side for the Park, the other stand out for Vic Park was Erron Martin winning by 11 shots over John Brewer who was playing his first game for some time.
For the Blue and Whites Garry Mitchell’s 25 shot win over Greg Keitel almost tipped the scales in the home side’s favour, together with the other East Freo rink of Dave Cure scoring a 12 shot win over Neil Fitzgerald the home side kept the Park honest. The Sharks were in this game right up to the last few ends, losing the last end on each rink to hand Vic Park a victory.
The games for these sides in the coming weeks will determine their destiny, for the Park they travel to Spearwood while the Blue and Whites remain home to host Mt Pleasant, a couple more wins for either side can make a huge difference towards promotion in Vic Parks case and relegation in the case of East Fremantle.
Next Game:
Vic Park travels to Spearwood while East Fremantle will host Mt Pleasant
Manning 96 (8) d Mt Pleasant 63 (0)
Mt Pleasant travelled to Manning to take on the Eagles with out Milan Jokic, the home side keen to demonstrate his departure will not affect their chances for promotion made a significant statement by picking up the maximum points on Saturday.
Best performance for the Eagles was John Francisco with a 14 shot margin over Barry Ellis.

New skip Peter Cole’s (pictured) rink sealed the issue with a nine shot win over Geoff White.
This is Peter's first skippering role at Manning and it has bought immediate results for the Eagles.
Peter had previously skippered at Mosman Park in their top 16 in previous years and is sure to be a valuable player in this role
This shot was taken in the recent State Fours
Greg Fairhead who hasn't skippered for quite sometime was equally impressive with a nine shot win over Brian Jeppeson and finally David McLiheney won by one in a close match against John Terrell.
Manning now sit in the bottom half of the table and will look to next weeks game to consolidate against a struggling Cockburn, while Mt Pleasant will be in a similar boat taking on bottom side East Fremantle for some much needed points.

---------------------------
Spearwood 98 (7) d Gosnells 62 (1)
Gosnells travelled to Spearwood on the back of a series of impressive wins, they had a sense that their season was on the improve, this quickly disappeared in the Sou-Wester that blew at Spearwood.
To their credit Gosnells were in the match at the 36th end behind by five shots, at 64th end they had dropped to be 21 shots behind finally to lose by 36.
For the home side Dominic Salvetti with Kevin Yakas, Brian Ciccotosto, and late substitute Ivan Perica as lead set up the win with a 16 shot win over David Newton.
Ivan Unkovich win by 13 over Bret Holland and Tonko Fiamengo ten shot win over Maurice Crabb gave the Spearwood side a much needed victory.
For Gosnells Jason Bryan with Colin Watters, Daniel Newton and Gordon Bradford won by three shots to pick up the solitary point for the visitors against Boris Yakas.
Jason led the whole day however to Boris’s credit a six on the 19th end created an opportunity, on the last end the home side held four shots with Jason to play his last bowl his first went wide and missed the head his last bowl landed on a short bowl rebounded of a shot bowl to rest on the closest Spearwood bowl to take shot.
Boris couldn't remove Jason’s last bowl to give the Gosnells side a well earned win.
Spearwood has a tough game coming up against a confident Vic Park, while Gosnells travel to the ‘House of Pain’ Rockingham.
