Hendy Cowan appointed to the Board of BowlsWA

Hendy Cowan, a former leader of the W.A National Party has been co-opted to Board of BowlsWA.
Hendy is a very highly regarded person with impeccable credentials had a distinguished political career where he led the W.A National Party for 23 of the 28 years he was invovled with the organisation.
Hendy a great lover of sport in general and a participating bowler, has a huge knowledge of how Govt systems work which will be to the benefit to our game.
Now we are already seeing things taking shape and happening so quickly, it is so refreshing to see the drive and enthusiasm of the new Board
and to get the right type of people on side that can help to drive the sport forward.
Merredin has provided the sport with several champion players, John Goddard, Jon Sharp, Tim Murray,
John Morgan and The Jones Boy. Now we find a Merredin born person contributing to the Sport.
A couple of vistitors have informed us that Hendy is from Narembeen, however he was born in Merredin according to Wikapedia
Once again congratulations to the newly elected board with this outstanding appointment

Ant and Missy have kept up their good form. Son Jordan and daughter Ruby arrived 8 mins apart tonight. Mother and bubs all well...Ant's naturally "over the moon"

BowlsWA to review pennant structure

The recently elected new Board of BowlsWA have released information they are conducting a complete review of all pennant competitions in the metropolitan area.
The new Board have moved quickly to undertake this overdue review, there has been plenty of talk of a review in the past but was something that was too difficult for previous Boards to contemplate.
I congratulate the new Board to be the first to grasp the nettle so to say by having a proper and full review and the way they are going about it.
The Board is more than happy to recieve input from all bowlers, here is the chance bowlers who have been denied for so long
to have their thoughts listened to.
There is so much more that can be done to make pennants a better game after having played the same format for the past 100 years.

Wanneroo Players off to Helensvale
September 1, 2010
A solid Wanneroo team will be playing in the Helensvale $40,000 National 5 a side challenge, there are 20 Interstate clubs participating, the event starting next Monday 7th Sept.
This event is without doubt one of the toughest of tough events that is played
anywhere in Australia. The depth of many of the sides is enormous.
Clive Adams is one of the best performed singles players here in WA, his record over the years is very impressive and is sure to be very competitive.
Derek Griffin is one of the best leaders in the Premier League and in WA, he also made the semi-final in the Champion of Club singles Champions earlier this year.
Geoff Ellis main strength these days is being terrific draw shot and that will be very handy playing three in the Fours/Triples.
Damion Moore is another solid draw shot player who has done well for Wanneroo in the Premier League
Mike Murray is the most promising young player in WA at this point of time, he will learn plenty by playing against some of the very best players in Australia, it is a marvellous opportunity for him to not only compete against these players but to see the skill level they possess and why they are as successful as they are and have been in the past.
WA have been represented in the National 5 a side
in the past two seasons, Osborne Park and Doubleview are the two Clubs to have done so, unfortunately both Clubs finished well down the list which emphasises just how hard this competition really is.
We wish the Wanneroo side all the best in this event and hope they can fly the flag not only for themselves but also for W.A

The winds of change for Bowls WA
August 13, 2010
The Patrick Buller ticket have been swept into office. Many Bowlers in WA will rejoice to see a new board and a new direction.
A journey that began 8 months ago last December after several clubs became unhappy with the direction that BowlsWA were taking has ended with a win for a the new board
Pat Buller and his group were encouraged when when they recieved the backing of some 40 clubs at their 1st meeting to bring about change, they remained steadfast throughout despite the many hurdles that had to be overcome.
Their proposal to change the constitution was voted in at the EGM with 78% of the clubs that voted in favour bearing in mind that they had to have 75% to of the vote to get it through.
We wish Pat and his team members the very best and ask everyone to bear in mind that change will not happen overnight, it will take time
for the new board to settle in as they begin their term of office.
We wish the new Board the very best for the future

Daniel Trewhella joins Trystan Smallacombe who is already in the squad.
Helen Morss, Christina Chrstic, Melissa Solley join Therese Hastings in the Ladies squad.
Congratulations to these players and we hope their selection will lead to bigger things for them down the track

We have recieved word from a visitor that the National Champion of Club championships will be played in a sets play format and Bowls South Australia are recomending that Clubs in future play these club events in a sets play format (ugh)
Perhaps our visitors agree with the sets play format, Sherro certainly does not, There are other avenues to play this novelty type of game.
Sherro says leave the game alone! The way Club Championships are now played is the fairest way to determine the winner.
the first to 21 or 25 in singles is the way to play the game, the player who plays the best usually wins the game,
Same for Pairs playing 15 ends 2x2x2x2.
Unlike setsplay where we see quite often the player who scored more and played best over 21 ends not winning the game.

The World Bowls Laws Committee is satisfied that it has carefully considered all representations made and that the changes now being recommended are in the best interests of the sport. It is envisaged that the revised laws, if agreed, will be implemented from the start of the 2011 outdoor season in England.

We have recieved a reply to the end of season Medal vote. Must say it has a lot of merit and just might be the way to go in the future.
There is a small flaw in the format but it is most likely better than the format used by the majority of clubs who have a best player medal count at the end of the season.
